For the first time, the Chevrolet Trailblazer will wear a Z71 badge. It is the headline of Chevrolet’s 2027 update for its two small SUVs, and it gives the Trailblazer a trim built for drivers whose plans continue past the end of the pavement.
The Z71 is only part of the story, though. Both the Trailblazer and the Trax gain more standard safety, bigger screens and a three-trim lineup, while the Trax also gets a fresh design.
The updated models are anticipated at Chevrolet dealers in spring 2027. We will start with the Z71 and then cover the rest.
Introducing the 2027 Trailblazer Z71
Chevrolet describes the Trailblazer Z71 as the brand’s entry-level adventure-ready AWD model. It sits in the Trailblazer lineup alongside the LT and RS.
Chevrolet lists four pieces of Z71 hardware:
- Standard all-wheel drive
- Off-road-tuned suspension
- Underbody skid plate
- Sport-terrain tires
Inside, the Z71 sets itself apart with debossed front-row headrests and a new Jet Black and Storm Sky Gray interior with Orange accents.
Why the Z71 Name Matters
Chevrolet has used the “Z” identifier since 1963 to signal added capability. Z71 itself debuted on Chevrolet’s full-size pickup line in 1988 and built a reputation for rugged appearance and hardware.
Today, Z71 is offered on the Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Colorado and Silverado. Adding it to the Trailblazer brings that same idea to Chevrolet’s small SUV range. Megan Liebrock, assistant marketing manager for Trax and Trailblazer, said the move gives more customers an authentic way to embrace everyday exploration.
The Rest of the 2027 Trailblazer
Every 2027 Trailblazer, Z71 or not, gets a reworked cabin. Chevrolet says the interior is designed for the driver. A new column-mounted shifter made space for a redesigned centre console with more flexible storage, and the cupholders retract to create more open storage.
The new design also adds HVAC vents for rear passengers. The AutoSense power liftgate will be available on the Trailblazer.
The 2027 Trax Gets a Fresh Design
While the Trailblazer gains a new trim, the Trax gains a new look. Chevrolet describes a more premium look and feel, with a new grille, new wheel designs, all-LED taillamps and a redesigned liftgate.
The Trax lineup is LT, RS and ACTIV. The LT has higher-contrast wheels for an urban look. The RS gets 19-inch wheels, the largest available across all trims. The ACTIV keeps an adventure-inspired style with a unique front-end design.
Inside the Trax, hexagonal side vents freshen the instrument panel. A power liftgate will be available on the Trax for the first time.
Safety and Tech Shared by Both
Chevrolet upgraded the electrical and software architecture in both SUVs. That allows more than 20 standard safety and driver assistance features, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Front and Rear Park Assist, Safety Alert Seat and Blind Zone Steering Assist.
Newly standard features include Reverse Automatic Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Front Park Assist, Rear Seat Belt Indicator and Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking.
Both models also get a new, larger standard 11-inch-diagonal driver information centre and an 11.3-inch-diagonal infotainment screen. Google built-in with Gemini compatibility comes with an OnStar Basics plan of up to eight years, and newly available OnStar One will be included for 12 months.
Storm Sky Gray debuts on both models as an all-new interior colour for Chevrolet, with a natural, earthy tone.
